Its really an amazing add-on i have come across.Once the add-on is installed,next time you open a new Firefox window/tab,the default about blank window will be replaced by so many thumbnails.Now the question arises what are these thumbnails.At the beginning these thumbnails are blank and need to be configured by you.Actually these thumbnails represent for the websites that you visit regularly.You can save all the websites that you visit most often as a thumbnail for fast dialing.There are many other options provided to you by fast dial.

Yahoo Messenger : New target for Hackers

Hackers have found a new target after e-mails. Instant messenger’s are the new target for hackers as they are not treated as vulnerable and hacker attractor’s by most of the people compared to e-mails.


Eweek has reported multiple vulnerabilities in Yahoo Messenger which hackers can use to remotely execute code.

“Upon learning of the issue, we began working on a fix,” Yahoo! spokesperson Terrell Karlsten tells eWEEK. She declined further comment until she had more details.

A Yahoo! spokesperson confirmed the company is looking into a buffer overflow issue in an Active X control. The company also said the vulnerabilities, which have obtained a rating of “high” by eEye Digital Security, were reported to Yahoo! on June 5 but are not known to have been exploited. Version 8.x of Yahoo! instant messaging (IM) client is at risk.

In addition, officials from security research firm Secunia say, a boundary error within the Yahoo! Webcam Upload (ywcupl.dll) ActiveX control can be exploited to cause a stack-based buffer overflow by assigning an overly long string to the ‘Server’ property and then calling the ‘Send()’ or ‘ Receive ()’ method.

A study by Akonix Systems in San Diego (May 2007), a provider of instant messaging security and compliance products, uncovered 170 IM threats—an increase of 73 percent when compared to the number the company found between January and May of 2006.

What is an ActiveX

Missing General Tab in Internet Explorer (Fix It ur self)

Missing general tab in Internet Explorer which contains buttons to clear history and stuff.???????????? Here is how to bring general tab back CLICK START BUTTON > CLICK ON RUN or (WinKey + R) & type in “regedit” this will take you to your registry, where you have to go to repair the issue. Once there, on the left side there go to the following… Click on HKEY_CURRENT_USER>Software>Policies>Microsoft>Internet Explorer>Control Panel On the right side there is data “GeneralTab“. After GeneralTab is REG_SZ and then is value 0 or something. Right click entry “GeneralTab” and click modify. Then write 0×00000000 (0) at Value data. Click ok and close window. Open internet explorer and general is visible again.

How to Minimize and Maximize Windows Using Keyboard Shortcuts in XP

Keyboard shortcuts save a lot of time when you have to use the same process again and again. Some of the uncommon keyboard shortcuts in Windows XP are using shortcuts to minimize and maximize a window.

So here are the keyboard shortcuts for minimizing and maximizing a Window:
To minimize all the windows you can use the keyboard shortcut Windows Key + M or you can also use show desktop (Windows Key + D). I prefer the shortcut for show desktop as you can press it again to show the last active window .

To minimize only the active window, press alt + spacebar and then press N.

Sometimes when you open an application and if it opens by covering only half of the total window size and if you would like to maximize it, you can use the shortcut keys alt + spacebar and then X.

To close an active window, press alt + Spacebar and then C

Other highly used keyboard shortcut would be to lock the computer. Use Windows Key + L to lock the computer. You can also set up a desktop shortcut to lock the computer.

Fix Task Manager/Registry Problem

Problem:-

When i try to access my task manager(Ctr+Alt+Del)...it displays message
'task manger has been disabled by ur administrator'..., and also i cant access my registry too..!!
what may have caused this problem....
is it becos of some VIRUS...????
how can i repair this without re installing...?? any particular software??

Solution:-

1: Close the IE browser. Log out messenger / Remove Internet Cable.
2: To enable Regedit
Click Start, Run and type this command exactly as given below: (better - Copy and paste)
REG add HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System /v DisableRegistryTools /t REG_DWORD /d 0 /f
3: To enable task manager : (To kill the process we need to enable task manager)
Click Start, Run and type this command exactly as given below: (better - Copy and paste)
REG add HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System /v DisableTaskMgr /t REG_DWORD /d 0 /f
4: Now we need to change the default page of IE though regedit.
Start>Run>Regedit
From the below locations in Regedit chage your default home page to google.com or other.
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main
HKEY_ LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main
HKEY_USERS\Default\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main
Just replace the attacker site with google.com or set it to blank page.
5: Now we need to kill the process from back end. Press Ctrl + Alt + Del
Kill the process svhost32.exe . ( may be more than one process is running.. check properly)
6: Delete svhost32.exe , svhost.exe files from Windows/ & temp/ directories. Or just search for svhost in your comp.. delete those files.
7: Go to regedit search for svhost and delete all the results you get.
Start menu > Run > Regedit >
8: Restart the computer. That’s it now you are virus free.

Restoring even when the Firefox is closed normally

heyy Friends...here's another techie stuff for you people... As most of you will be using firefox as their defaul web browser then here a special stuff for you... Ever felt like you want to restore the previous session the last time you browsed, even after closing the browser normally last time...here's the technique... check out:- There are two methods

1)Normal way:-

Go to Tools --> options --> main --> select "Show my windows and tabs from last time" from the drop down menu of When Firefox starts.

2)Twisty way:-

Type about:config in your address bar and search for browser.startup.page -- right click on it ,go to modify and set the value to 2 If you want to restore it.


Browser.startup.page values and their functions :

0:- Start with a blank page (about:blank)

1:- Start with the webpage defined as home page. (Default)

2:- Load the last visited page/Resume the previous browser session (Firefox only, implemented after Firefox 2 beta 1)

FIND WHO IS INVISIBLE ON YAHOO MESSENGER

Hiiii friends....am with another intresting stuff...
i know how you would feel when some one ignores you when you are in yahoo chat..most common way to ignore is make the status as offline....
lets put an end to the drama....here the trick to find who is invisible @ yahoo..........

Firstly open your yahoo messenger main window and double click on the name of the person whom you want to check.The chat window will open obviously.

Click IMVironment button, select See all IMVironments, select Yahoo! Tools or Interactive Fun, and click on Doodle.
After loading the Doodle imvironment there can be two possibilities

1.If the user is offline Doodle are will show this "waiting for your friend to load Doodle" continuously .See in the picture below:


2. If the user is online (but in invisible mode), after few seconds (it can take up to one minute, depending on your connection speed), you should get a blank page like in the picture below.So you know that the user is online.


Ho so friends...just login to yahoo messenger and find out who is hiding from you....
and folks who are hiding....."THE GAME IS OVER"

How to prevent your pen drive from getting infected with Virus ?

Hiii friends....how you doing..hope you people enjoys the technical stuff posted around here...
Also if you need any help on any techie stuff feel free to post a comment...I will try my level best to post the solution here...

Friends many of your PC/laptop's normally gets virus because of Pen Drives or USB devices (Even PC's who are not connected to network ). Some Virus like Ravmon Virus , Heap41a worm which are not detected by anti virus normally spreads mostly by the Pen Drives . In such a case what can you do to prevent your PC from getting infected with Virus that spreads through USB devices or Pen Drives ?

You can protect your PC by just following the simple steps below . It won't take much time.

• Connect your Pen Drive or USB drive to your computer .
• Now a dialogue window will popup asking you to choose among the options as shown in the figure.
• Don't choose any of them , Just simply click Cancel .
• Now go to Start--> Run and type cmd to open the Command Promt window .
• Now go to My Computer and Check the Drive letter of your USB drive or Pen Drive. ( E.g. If it is written Kingston (I:) , then I: will be the drive letter .)
• In the Command Window ( cmd ) , type the drive letter: and Hit Enter .
• Now type dir/w/o/a/p and Hit Enter.
• You will get a list of files . In the list , search if anyone of the following do exist .

1. Autorun.inf
2. New Folder.exe
3. Bha.vbs
4. Iexplore.vbs
5. Info.exe
6. New_Folder.exe
7. Ravmon.exe
8. RVHost.exe or any other files with .exe Extension .
   

• If you find any one of the files above , Run the command attrib -h -r -s -a *.* and Hit Enter.
  
• Now Delete each File using the following Command del filename ( E.g del autorun.inf ) .
  
• That's it . Now just scan your USB drive with the anti virus you have to ensure that you made your Pen Drive free of Virus .
  

Now Unplug your Pen Drive or USB device and Plug it again to your Laptop/PC . Before removing your Pen Drive from others Computer , Don't forget to search for .exe files using the Windows search and remove them .

How to remove RAVMON Virus from your PC ? Show hidden files and folders not working ? Computer shuts down automatically ?

Is your right click context menu showing some Chinese scripts ? Is your show hidden files and folders not working ? Is your command prompt , Registry Editor and task manager disabled ??

If all these things are happening to your Computer , the reason is that it has got infected by a virus named " RAVMON " .What can this Virus do ??

• Disables task manager , Registry Editor and Command prompt .
  
• Right click menu shows some Chinese scripts as shown in the figure.
• Computer shutdown automatically and slogs a lot.
• Folder Options disappear
• Show hidden files and folders Option won't work.

With all these things not working , I can understand what can go with you !! I saw this thing on my PC . Then only I decided to write the solution for this.So how are you going to remove this ?

Irritiated by this ?? Some of my reader has got this problem and he sent me a message asking for help . Here is the solution :

About the virus :

The name of the virus is W32/AHKHeap , It basically creates a folder with the name heap41a in C drive that will be disguised as system folder with hidden attributes enabled and copies all its contents in that heap41a folder.The running process that is responsible for this is svchost.exe and it will be spawned under user name.The virus will even make a entry into your registry so that it can run every time the system is started . This spreads mostly through pen drives .

How to get Rid of this :

Most of the antivirus leave this virus unnoticed . I personally tried 3-4 antivirus on this . None of them detected it. So you have to remove it manually .

• Go to your task manager by pressing ctrl + alt + del .In that go to processes tab .
• In that look for svchost.exe . You might find more than one of them . In that look for those who have user name as your login name of computer and end those processes .
• Now open My ComputerIn the address bar, type C:\heap41a and hit enter. It is a hidden folder, and is not visible by default.Delete all the files in this folder .
• Now go to Start –> Run and type Regedit , Go to the menu Edit –> FindType “heap41a” here and press enter. You will get something like this “[winlogon] C:\heap41a\svchost.exe C:\heap(some number)\std.txt”Select that and Press DEL. It will ask “Are you sure you want to delete this value”, click Yes. Now close the registry editor and you are done .

Precaution :

Before inserting any kinda pen drive in your pc , just delte the autorun.inf file in it and delete any .exe files that exist in it .

Protect Your Personal Computer

By taking certain precautions, a user can prevent their credit or debit card from being misused both online and offline.

1. Do not provide photocopies of both the sides of the credit card to anyone. The card verification value (CVV) which is required for online transactions is printed on the reverse of the card. Anyone can use the card for online purchases if the information is available with them.



2. Do not click on links in email seeking details of your account, they could be phishing emails from fraudsters. Most reputed companies will ask you to visit their website directly.



3. While using a credit card for making payments online, check if the website is secure The CVV will also be required.



4. Do not give any information to persons seeking credit card information over phone



5. Notify your bank / credit card issuer if you do not receive the monthly credit card statement on time. If a credit card is misplaced or lost, get it cancelled immediately.
